Barlinek Invest, a member of the Barlinek Group, officially opened in Vinnitsa, Ukraine its first foreign plant of the Barlinek board. 2 million m2 of layer floor production annually will make the Polish company the largest supplier in the local market. The Group plans more investments in Ukraine and in Russia.
The Ukrainian plant of the Barlinek Group was established within one year from commencing of the third Polish line of the Barlinek board (which took place in June last year). The location was selected due to access to raw materials and due to the dynamic development of the local and neighbouring markets. The total cost of the plant was EUR 50 million. The project was financed with a new share issue and externally, mainly with a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Similarly to Barlinek, the plant in Vinnitsa will perform the complete woodworking process: from logs to ready floor boards. That is why apart from the floor boards, complete back up facilities were constructed: material storage, coniferous and deciduous saw mill with moulder, drying chamber, warehouse and logistics centre. Apart from directly production departments, on the site there is also a boiler house and a biofuel (pellet) plant with output of 17,000 tons annually. The original assumption that coniferous semi-finished products would be supplied by Ukrainian partners proved impossible due to poor development of local wood working industry. A saw mill suitable for the investment was purchased in Kosiv. The mill was thoroughly modernised and by the end of the year there will be a plant to produce coniferous semi-finished products. Similarly to Vinnitsa, also in Kosiv there will be a pellet plant. The construction is co-financed by EBRD for EUR 9.5 million. The annual output capacity of the pellet plant will be about 35,000 tons.
The Ukrainian Barlinek board plant created 600 jobs. Most of the employees, also for managerial positions, have been recruited in Ukraine. The preparations and training for selected persons in Poland that altogether took about a year provided the required knowledge on the Barlinek board and prepared the staff to occupy key positions in the company.
