What is the abrasion resistance of a Barlinek board, e.g. Family Oak?

What is the abrasion resistance of a Barlinek board, e.g. Family Oak? I have a dog and I'd like to choose the appropriate board.

The abrasion resistance of wooden floors is defined by different parameters than those used for laminate/plastic floors. The Barlinek floorboard is produced in versions with two different varnish coats - normal for normal foot traffic and PROFESSIONAL for heavily used areas. In your case, the best floorboard would be one with PROFESSIONAL varnish, or oil-finished, which is best suited to this type of use.

Varnished floorboard or oil-impregnated?

I am interested in laying Barlinek Exclusive plain floorboards and cannot decide whether to choose oiled or varnished version. I really like the oiled one, but can't help wondering if it will be used too much. I want to lay it in the living room.

I would definitely go for the oiled board. A floor of that size stays in better condition with an oil coating.

Floor durability - which wood?

I would like to know which type of wood is most durable which of the levelling materials is best? I want to make a floor of around 50 m² in my flat. I'm also trying to decide between good quality panels and boards. What would you suggest?

Barlinek floorboard made from merbau, tali, padouk or nut wood. Laid on a cork mat.

Stiletto heels on a floorboard...

Is there a Barlinek floorboard resistant to walking over it in stilettos, and if so, which? If not, what do you recommend laying?

No wood is resistant to mechanical impact of 50 kg per 1 cm².In this case we recommend stone floors.

I would like to lay floors in rooms during autumn. Is this not too late?

I would like to lay floors in rooms during autumn. Is this not too late? I'm interested in wood - traditional floor or boards. It is a new house, built quickly, and the foundations were laid exactly a year ago at the start of October. It's ready, heated inside, and we have already moved in. I don't know what the moisture content of screed floors is, or how to check it. What should I choose for the bedroom, and what for the living room? Which wood is most resistant and which will change its size the least? Quick installation is important for me, but so is quality, so I don't know what to choose, since the aesthetics are down to individual taste. Any advice?

Alder and birch for the bedroom. These are soft varieties, but ionise the room very well and protect against water veins. You don't normally wear shoes in the bedroom, so there's no problem. Hard wood for the living room and hall: oak, ash, acacia, merbau, doussie Africa. These are wood varieties less susceptible to expansion and shrinking, but even in these conditions you should check the moisture content. In a cement floor it should be up to 2% according to the CM method 45-60% in the air. A professional should do this.

A light floor for the kitchen and dining room

Hello, we've bought a house. Our living room is connected with the kitchen and dining room. These two rooms cover nearly 40 m². We would like to lay a traditional floor or floorboards in the living room and dining room. We are planning on having dark brown furniture. Our interior designer has advised us to have a very light coloured floor. I'll also add that there is an exit out into the garden from the living room. We'd like to know which wood we would be better to lay, and if it should be a traditional floor or boards. Of your range, we really like the ash from the exclusive series. We wouldn't like the staves to be too visible. Is this a good choice?

Ash is a good choice, and in addition the exclusive collection is with coated with a durable varnish. It doesn't expand or shrink too much and is suitable for living rooms. It's hard.

Infused beech or sapella ?

I'm planning on laying a wooden panel floor, with a total area of about 64 m² in the living room, hall and guest room. I am concerned with the hardness of the floor and its resistance to scratching and damage, so that it can retain its original appearance even after a long time. Looking through Barlinek's offer, I liked the infused beech and sapella. Which of these would be most appropriate in terms of resistance to the effects of domestic use? What should be avoided to prevent such a floor becoming scratched quickly?

Please buy beech from the Professional collection. Beech is harder, and is also coated with a durable varnish highly resistant to abrasion. Please follow the correct maintenance procedures included in the assembly and usage instructions.

Barlinek floorboards on stairs.

I would like to ask what to buy for concrete stairs. I have already bought Barlinek Professional floorboards for the floor. Can such a floorboard also be laid on stairs?

Yes, it's suitable for stairs. It should be finished with stair skirting from the BARLINEK S.A. range.

The rustic/rustical class

I have a question concerning a product which I came across in a shop: Rustical class Barlinek floorboard made from hornbeam and oak. There is no description of such a floorboard on your website. Is this an invention by the retailer, or do you really have such a class in your range, and if so what are its characteristics?

There is such a class, but outside the official catalogue. These are products for supermarkets, or promotional products for distributions. They have light dents, short strips and large, filled knots. Of course, all this does not reduce the floor's durability, but its appearance may suffer after laying.

A dog and the Barlinek board

Please advise me on what type of wooden floor, from which variety of wood, and what method of laying can be applied in a living room where there is a large dog. It is a sunny room, with an area of around 50 m². Due to the furnishing of the room I'd prefer a light coloured floor. We currently have a birch traditional floor coated with ecological varnish, which has decidedly failed the test.

Please use the Barlinek floorboard of oiled ash, or a varnished floorboard with increased abrasion resistance (the Professional series). Unfortunately birch is too soft.

Floors for allergics

I need to buy a floor for the bedroom for someone with an allergy, an asthmatic in fact. Can you suggest something? Does Barlinek have any certificates with regard to this?

It is generally a very healthy floor and of course has hygiene certificates. It is also easy to keep clean, and static-free, but for an asthmatic even natural wood can be harmful. I honestly don't know if this type of illness will tolerate wood.

Underfloor heating

I have underfloor water heating, and a question connected with this. Are Barlinek floors suitable for this? What floorboard would you recommend for underfloor heating? What should I lay under the board?

The Barlinek floorboard is superb in this case. It has around 2.5°C loss between the base and the top, which is not much. Strong, oil-free joins prevent drying out. I'd encourage you to consider such varieties as merbau, jatoba, oak, acacia or doussie Africa. It would be good if the floorboard was glued down. It conducts heat better. You should buy a floorboard from one of the classes off the price list, thus avoiding disappointment. Short floorboards are mainly in supermarkets. Long floorboards will lie better on heating.
